The Peruvian Institute of Astronomy is a nonprofit institution whose main objective is to promote and develop Astronomy and Space Sciences.
Ten years ago we acquired our first STARLAB PORTABLE PLANETARIUM, to begin an Educational Program in schools. This year 2005, "International Year of Physics", we reopen our study program with two Portable Planetariums aimed to cover the different Primary and High Schools, Higher Education Institutes, Air Force Institutions, and Universities all over the country.
The Peruvian Institute of Astronomy has three maim DOME THEATERS that are open all year round. Planetarium Maria Reiche, ICA - Planetarium Maria Reiche, NASCA - and Planetarium & Observatory Maria Reiche, COLCA-Arequipa.
In our planetariums you can get instruction about naked-eye sky observation, planets, asteroids detection, and deep sky objects. This instruction goes together with powerful instruments of direct, photographic, and digital observation.
Another main teaching area is Cultural Astronomy, where you learn how the ancient pre-columbian cultures: Nasca Tiwanaku-Wari, Mochica, Inca, and the current Andean, Quechua and Aymara populations observed, interpreted, and used the sky with their myths and cosmovision.
This year we will be very close to you, the astronomy and space conquest lovers, through this web site with Articles, Training Courses, and different events that we have programmed.
Awaiting your important suggestions.
Sincerely, |
